I love Sven Nykvist and Ingmar Bergman.
Bergman, the writer of the movie, had this dream of three women in this red room, a blood red room (what an inside of a serpent might look like, he said) and these three women are sitting there, just waiting. From this dream stemmed a deeply moving story of two sisters—and their maid-- in the turn of the century Sweden, waiting for their sister to die a painful death of cancer.
Drama like kids will not even comprehend. So when you grow up, rent this movie to get some enlightenment.
This movie has influenced the way I live my life to this day.
And it doesn’t hurt that the cinematography is gorgeous.
