Liz Tilberis

Who was Liz Tilberis?

Liz Tilberis was an extraordinary woman. A legend. Though in just years, she contributed more than Anna Wintour and Carine Roitfeld combined to the fashion world, she often remains forgotten amongst many.

Liz Tilberis joined British Vogue as a fashion assistant in 1970 and quickly rose to the top to the position of executive fashion editor, before taking the reins as Editor-In-Chief from Anna Wintour in 1987. Tilberis was the Editor of British Vogue from 1988 to 1992. She became director of the Conde Nast Publications in 1991, and in 1992 she emigrated to New York to take up the role of editor-in-chief at Harper's Bazaar. In 1993 she was diagnosed with ovarian cancer and published a memoir, No Time to Die. Through her battle, she remained close friends with Diana, Princess of Wales and designer Calvin Klein. In 1999, Liz Tilberis was succumbed to the disease at just 51.

I know this is just some post on a blog, but I really hope we can keep her memory alive. I obviously never met her, but I have a huge amount of respect towards her, and she has given so much to the industry in such a short amount of time. She created the 1990's Super Models. Her work still influences all fashion editors. Kate Hudson's recent W Magazine cover was inspired by one of Liz's iconic covers for Bazaar.

Her first cover for Harper's Bazaar. One of the most legendary covers of any fashion magazine.

This cover was the beginning of a new era in fashion. One of the most famous eras in fashion. Liz picked Naomi, Linda, Christy, Tatjana, and Cindy for the cover.
