Finally. It's about time that the June 2009 cover was released for Vogue. Clearly, it's as far from something like Italian Vogue than ever before, but, I must say that I like the cover. I mean, it's perfect for June. When I think "June" I naturally think of delicate sunshine, soft breezes, stainless whites, and lambent greens. It's time that we accept the fact that American Vogue is not your source for an extremely unrealistic, pompous, and exaggerated view of that edgy venue filled with drugs, sex, and art - in which we like to call the fashion world. As much as those beautifully dramatic spread-outs of Amber Valleta in that Versace Atelier dress stranded in a tiger's cage leave an ever lasting impression on us, American Vogue is just as spectacular - only in a different way. American Vogue provides it's readers with dreams. A way of life that we all hope to one day acquire. It's strictly successful people, exquisitely crafted clothing, positive attitudes and beautiful faces. As much as we love it, you won't see blood, dirt, cigarettes, and editorials entitled "Rehab" in American Vogue. However, you will see smiles, dresses with flower prints, and blonde hair in the wind - in Vogue. More commercially appealing? Possibly. But that's just how it is. That's the American attitude that appeals to so many - whether you're an 11 year old boy from Detroit, or a 76 year old woman from the Hamptons - Vogue is simply an escape in which we can experience the American dream that we all so desperately hope to obtain in our futures.
